Arugam Bay has evolved as a dream destination for surfers. After the Tsunami 2004 a group of local people and incomers who were interested in nature and water sports supported small family businesses, hotels and included poor locals into tourism activities. A part of their income was donated for the preservation of the mangroves.
Attractions to visit with a Tuk Tuk are the crocodile rock and the elephant rock which are located behind a village with the melodious name Panama.
